Basic Obedience Training
At Hoffman Haus Pet Resort, in partnership with North Carolina K9 Academy, we offer basic obedience training designed to help you build a stronger relationship with your dog while developing the skills needed for a happy, well-mannered companion.
Our approach focuses on helping dogs understand and choose desired behaviors rather than relying on force. We use motivation, clear communication, and positive reinforcement to make learning an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both you and your dog.
Training can help establish a strong foundation of everyday obedience while giving you the tools and understanding to communicate more effectively with your dog. We believe consistency and clear expectations are key to helping dogs succeed both during training and at home.
We also work with owners to address unwanted behaviors by teaching dogs appropriate alternatives and providing guidance on how to respond when those behaviors occur. Our trainer will work with you to understand your dog's individual needs and demonstrate appropriate, fair corrections when necessary.
Our goal is to address unwanted behaviors by teaching appropriate corrections. Our trainer will guide you on how to apply these corrections in a way that your dog understands naturally, ensuring the discipline is effective and never abusive. Instead, we focus on clear communication, consistency, and humane training techniques that help your dog understand what is expected of them.

Meet Our Trainer, Jim
With more than 30 years of experience in the dog training world, Jim, our owner and head trainer, brings a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience to every dog he works with.
Throughout his career, Jim has trained hundreds of dogs of all ages and backgrounds, from playful 8-week-old puppies to senior dogs. His experience includes basic obedience as well as personal protection training, giving him a broad understanding of canine behavior, communication, and training.
Jim's expertise has even brought recognition beyond the training field. His personal dogs have been featured in WIRED magazine and have appeared in a Ford F-150 commercial.
Whether you're bringing home a new puppy, looking to improve your dog's everyday manners, or working through specific behavioral challenges, Jim takes the time to understand each dog as an individual. His goal is to help you develop better communication with your dog and build a foundation for a happy, well-mannered companion.

Boarding & Training Program
Our Boarding & Training Program combines the benefits of professional training with the convenience of boarding at Hoffman Haus Pet Resort. While your dog is staying with us, our trainers work with them daily on basic obedience, helping establish a strong foundation of communication, manners, and good behavior.
Throughout the program, we will keep you informed on your dog's progress by providing regular updates and videos so you can see what they are learning and how they are progressing.
Puppy Training Starts Early!
A puppy's brain undergoes significant development during 8-16 weeks of age! That’s why it is imperative to begin training puppies as young as 8 weeks old! The early puppy period is an important time for development, learning, and becoming familiar with the world around them. Starting early gives puppies an opportunity to begin learning appropriate behaviors and building positive experiences from the very beginning.
Early training is about more than simply teaching commands. It is about helping your puppy develop good habits & manners, learn how to respond to guidance, and become a confident member of your family. The earlier you start, the stronger the foundation you can build!
Training at Any Age :
Dogs can learn throughout their entire lives, regardless of age or breed. Training is about teaching good manners and building reliable obedience, giving you the tools to better understand and manage your dog’s behavior. While training can help shape how your dog responds in different situations, it does not change their personality when they are past the age of brain development.
What we can do is help your dog learn how to make better choices, understand expectations, and develop reliable manners and basic obedience skills. Whether you have a young puppy who is just getting started or an older dog who needs a little extra guidance, there is always an opportunity to learn.
That’s why our Boarding & Training Program is available to dogs of all ages and breeds.
Every dog and every situation is different. We encourage you to call and speak with Jim about your dog’s current behavior, training history, personality, and the goals you have for them. He can discuss your specific situation with you and help determine the best approach for you and your dog.

14-Day vs. 30-Day Training Programs
We offer two different Boarding & Training options:
14-Day Program : Basic obedience & 6-foot lead work (with the 14 day program you can buy into the weekly follow-up classes)
30-Day Program : Basic obedience & 20-foot lead and distraction work along with access to free unlimited weekly follow-up classes
Every dog is different. Their age, personality, temperament, previous training, and individual learning needs all play a role in determining how much time they may need. After evaluating your dog, our trainer will help recommend whether a 2-week or 4-week program would be the better fit.
Your Take-Home Class
Training doesn't end when your dog comes home. At the end of the program, you will participate in an approximately 1–2 hour take-home training class with our trainers.
We strongly encourage everyone who lives with or regularly handles your dog to attend this session. During this class, our trainer will teach you the foundation we have established with your dog and show you how to continue working with them at home.
The goal is to make sure you understand not only what your dog has learned, but how to continue reinforcing those behaviors once they are back in their normal environment.

We have found that many families experience success with our Boarding & Training Program because your dog receives consistent, daily training while staying in a structured environment. However, the progress your dog makes ultimately depends on what happens after they come home.
You are an important part of your dog's training.
The skills your dog learns with us need to be practiced and reinforced at home. Your consistency, communication, and willingness to continue working with your dog will have a significant impact on their long-term success.
Our trainers can give you the foundation, tools, and guidance—but you and your dog are the team that will continue building on that foundation every day.
